Friends Seminary
Location 222 East 16th St, New York, NY
Project Size 5,400 SF
JRM Construction Management completed work on a new cafeteria facility for Friends Seminary. The school’s existing cafeteria built in 1984 was outdated and unable to provide enough space for their exponential growth in student population. JRM constructed a striking new space that fully utilizes the 5,400 SF of functional area to serve students for many years to come.
New critical infrastructure systems were installed to accommodate a modern commercial kitchen facility, including new gas service, HVAC, MEP systems, and all-new lighting throughout. JRM installed new underground plumbing under the floor slab, including a new hot water heater and central water purification system.
The centrally located servery and open kitchen feature high-end millwork, stone countertops, and custom-colored stainless steel throughout. JRM also built a new underground dry food storage vault. The cafeteria being located in the basement level of the school with no elevator access added complexity to the project and required completion on a tight schedule during the summer months.
