Three awards will support education, health, and food security organizations across NYC

JRM, a Manhattan-based construction management and general contracting firm named one of NYC’s fastest growing companies by Crain’s, is continuing its tradition of giving back to the community with the announcement of its second cycle of Community Impact Grants. The company will award $70,000 in grants across three impact areas: Education, Health, and Housing/Food Security.

“Since our inception in 2007, JRM has been committed to supporting local causes,” said JRM’s CEO David McWilliams. “These grants will allow us to make an even more significant impact on the issues important to our firm, our employees, and the communities where we live and operate. Congratulations to all the winners.”

In the education category, JRM is awarding the Stuttering Association for the Young (SAY), a Manhattan-based nonprofit arts education organization that has worked with young people who stutter since 2001. They serve 250 young people each year, and reach another 6,000 individuals through public performances. The grant funds will support SAY’s “Confident Voices” initiative, a year-round afterschool and weekend program for youth who stutter (a common but often misunderstood speech disorder). The Confident Voices program provides performing arts training that helps youth to overcome the physical, social and emotional impact of stuttering. Through the creative process and live performances in music, theater and storytelling, youth are able to find their voices.

The health award will go to Care for the Homeless, a 30-year old organization that fights homelessness by delivering high-quality and client-centered healthcare, human services and shelter to homeless individuals and families citywide. The impact grant will support the operation of Care for the Homeless’ Mobile Health Clinic (MHC) in 2017, improving and saving the lives of homeless individuals in the Bronx and NYC. The MHC provides primary medical care and mental health treatment and will directly impact an estimated 500 individuals with high-quality, client centered health care, enabling them to live a more stable, healthier and independent life.

Bobby Watts, Care for the Homeless Executive Director stated:  “We are honored to be selected as one of the Community Impact Grant recipients, along with the two other worthy and prestigious organizations.  The life-saving outreach and health care being delivered to homeless individuals on the Mobile Health Clinic in 2017 will be aided by the thoughtful, caring investment of JRM Construction Company.  We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the company for joining us in the fight to end homelessness.”

Finally, in the category of Housing and Food Security, Citymeals on Wheels will receive a grant to continue their mission of serving homebound elderly New Yorkers. The grant will support the preparation and delivery of weekend, holiday and emergency meals to homebound older New Yorkers. An ongoing supplemental meal service, the goal of this program is to ensure that older recipients who receive weekday meals through the New York City Department for the Aging (DFTA) have food every day of the week, even when City programs are shut down. The aim of this grant is to continue to provide this service and scale the program to accommodate the increasing aging population.
